In the dying moments, pure elation erupted for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández stabbed home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola howling at the heavens and gifted the temporary Chelsea manager a unforgettable moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to warm the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Glaring Contrast in Experience

On the City bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with an unparalleled CV for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his senior managerial bow after being seconded from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed nearly insurmountable.
