Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in September and given more than over two decades in incarceration, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments emerged.

This included attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could facilitate a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the custody, the magistrate said information from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the gathering called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio, who serves as a senator, called for a assembly of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or see it all from your phone there on your settee? I invite you to battle with us."
