Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
